What is worth pointing out

Corrections, above everything. A ferry changes its harbor or its season, a commuter line is cut back for track work, a museum village changes how its tickets work, a road over the hills shuts for repairs. If you have just been and something here did not match, that is worth more than any amount of desk research.

Especially useful: anything about arriving and moving around, such as the routes from Logan into the city, the Turnpike tolls, the island ferries and their car places, the summer trains and boats to the Cape and Provincetown, and the seasonal roads such as the one up Mount Greylock, which are the parts of this guide most likely to go stale.

What this is not for

It is not a booking service. This site does not sell, book or reserve anything, and cannot get you a room, a table, a ferry place, a car or a ticket; those come from the operators themselves and their official booking systems.

It cannot tell you what something costs or when it opens: no price or opening time appears anywhere on this site, because the operator is the only source that is right on the day. For non-emergency questions in Boston, call 311; for emergencies anywhere in the state, call 911.

The towns

If a page describes a place, a street or a piece of a town's history in a way that is wrong or unfair, that matters here too, and it will be corrected. This guide does not label any town or neighborhood as good or bad, because such labels are rarely accurate and never useful.

Photographs

Every photograph on this site is credited beside it, and every credit links to the file's own page on Wikimedia Commons, where its author, its license and its history are recorded.

Photographs are replaced when a better or more recent one of the same place turns up, and captions are corrected when they describe the frame wrongly.
